The Hermitage Academy’s mission statement is:
‘The Hermitage Learning Community strives for excellence. Each member has value in this supportive environment and is entitled to opportunities which develop skills for effective Lifelong Learning. We encourage, recognise and celebrate all aspects of achievement from all members of our learning community.’
The academy therefore is committed to creating, maintaining and promoting a working environment and a community where we have the opportunity to receive quality services regardless of any differences that we may have. We have a commitment to social inclusion and equality of opportunity for all.
The equalities objectives we are focusing on this year are:
To narrow the gap between girls and boys in Science and Humanities to reduce or remove inequalities in attainment and progress within the subjects.
To increase staff understanding of equality and its implications on a day to day basis, and in this way to reduce or remove serotypes in choosing career pathways and inequalities in attainment throughout the school.
To increase awareness of strategies for dealing with exam stress (and/or) increase awareness of the impact of mental health issues.
To increase staff understanding of equality and its implications on a day to day basis, and in this way to raise aspirations and confidence in girls to support them in applying to universities and competitive courses.
To increase the membership of vulnerable students in out-of-school clubs and activities, and in this way to reduce or remove inequalities in attainment throughout the school, particularly inequalities relating to the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act.
