The Hermitage Academy’s mission statement is:

The academy therefore is committed to creating, maintaining and promoting a working environment and a community where we have the opportunity to receive quality services regardless of any differences that we may have. We have a commitment to social inclusion and equality of opportunity for all.

The equalities objectives we are focusing on this year are:

  • To narrow the gap between girls and boys in Science and Humanities to reduce or remove inequalities in attainment and progress within the subjects.

  • To increase staff understanding of equality and its implications on a day to day basis, and in this way to reduce or remove serotypes in choosing career pathways and inequalities in attainment throughout the school.

  • To increase awareness of strategies for dealing with exam stress (and/or) increase awareness of the impact of mental health issues.

  • To increase staff understanding of equality and its implications on a day to day basis, and in this way to raise aspirations and confidence in girls to support them in applying to universities and competitive courses.

  • To increase the membership of vulnerable students in out-of-school clubs and activities, and in this way to reduce or remove inequalities in attainment throughout the school, particularly inequalities relating to the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act.
